UVMMC postponing some elective surgeries due to IV fluid shortage

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The UVM Medical Center is among hospitals that are now postponing some surgical procedures due to a nationwide shortage of IV fluid.

Hurricane Helene knocked out one of the nation’s largest IV fluid facilities, resulting in the shortage.

The UVM Health Network on Wednesday said they are now postponing certain elective surgeries to ensure supplies don’t get too low.

If your procedure is impacted, you’ll hear from your provider.
