Bat Week kicks off with migration season underway

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Thursday kicks off a week-long celebration of fur and flight.

Thursday is the start of Vermont’s Bat Week, which runs October 24-31.

Bats are on the move this time of year, and it’s not just because Halloween is a week from today.

Bats migrate in the fall and spring, making this the perfect time to evict the unwanted tenants in your walls or attic.

Vermont Fish and Wildlife also asks you to report any large colonies of bats in structures.

You may be eligible for a free bat box from the state if you have a large colony of little brown bats.
