BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – New Yorkers are being applauded for offering up their organs after they no longer need them.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced this week that for the first time, more than half of eligible people in the state have registered as donors.
According to Hochul, the Empire State has had historically low levels of organ and tissue donors, with only 22% registration a decade ago.
She says organ donations saved about 3,000 New Yorkers last year.
