St. Johnsbury fire truck up for auction

St. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – If you’ve ever wanted your very own fire truck – here’s your chance.

The St. Johnsbury Fire Department is auctioning off one of its rescue trucks taken out of service.

All the money raised will go towards the town’s general fund.

Chief Bradley Reed says they aim for 20 years out of the vehicles, and letting this go was no easy decision.

“It was a decision we didn’t take lightly, but we needed to make for the safety of our members and for the community,” said Reed.

Reed says all the equipment has been removed from the truck, but it’s still got a lot of life left in it with a good engine and pump.

A new truck is already in line to replace it – complete with a galvanized frame – which Reed says is better suited for corrosion in the area.

“Hopefully we’ll get by a little better with the galvanized frame and it’ll last the 20 years it’s supposed to last,” he said.

The auction for the retired fire truck ends on October 30.
