Lewiston gathering to honor victims one year after shooting

LEWISTON, ME. (WCAX) – Victims are still reconning with tragedy Friday morning – one year after a gunman killed 18 people in Lewiston, Maine.

A year ago, army reservist Robert Card opened fire in a bowling alley and bar with a semiautomatic rifle.

18 people were killed and Card later took his own life.

Police were aware of Card’s declining mental state but both the army and police failed to seize his guns.

A ceremony is planned on Friday night in Lewiston to honor the victims, survivors, and first responders.
