South Burlington latest hit in string of bank robberies

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Another bank robbery is the latest in a string of heists in Chittenden County.

South Burlington Police say it happened on Tuesday just before 5 p.m. at the East Rise Credit Union on Shelburne Road. They say a lone man came into the branch saying he had a ‘flammable device’ and took an undisclosed amount of cash. He never took out a weapon or device and fled the scene.

It’s the latest in a string of at least four bank robberies Since Saturday. Police have identified a suspect in two of the Burlington robberies. Authorities say James Plunkett, 39, of Burlington, robbed the M&T Bank on Pine Street Saturday morning and then hit the Key Bank on Bank Street around 11:30 a.m. Monday. They say he also attempted to break into a home in the New North End last Thursday.

The TD Bank on East Allen Street in Winooski was also hit Tuesday afternoon.

Police have not said if the Burlington robberies are connected to Tuesday’s.
