PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – Plattsburgh’s mayor is calling on the Common Council to launch an investigation. It’s connected to internal emails alleging illegal activity and wrongdoing at the police department and mayor’s office.
WCAX News obtained several internal messages regarding the case through a public records request. Our Alek LaShomb was able to get texts and email written by Councilor Elizabeth Gibbs to rest of the council.
The email is heavily redacted but shows Gibbs go over the history of the department over the last few years. This is the email in which the mayor says Gibbs made claims against the police department, his office and former members of the council.
Mayor Chris Rosenquest wants the investigation that he says would show illegal activity and wrongdoing at the police department.
There are allegations an officer misused a city-owned vehicle and cellphone, doctored time sheets and didn’t follow up on investigations
Rosenquest also wants the Common Council to look into potential targeted enforcement of other department members and political candidates by an officer no longer at the Plattsburgh City Police Department.
This all comes as the department has had no stable chief for a few years now and a new mayoral administration takes office in 2025.
Councilors will discuss the potential investigation at their meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Our Alek LaShomb is there.
