BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – One person is in custody tonight after a crash involving a stolen vehicle in Essex Junction.
Police say at around 6:50 p.m. Thursday, a Colchester police officer spotted a car that had been reported stolen near St. Michael’s College.
The officer turned on the blue lights and the car began making U-turns trying to evade being stopped. That’s when police say a pursuit began, hitting speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.
The crash happened when the car got to the Essex Junction shopping center on Pearl Street and tried to turn into the parking lot, but hit another car that was also turning in.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as 34-year-old Shauna Francis of Burlington. Francis is now being held pending evaluation of criminal charges.
Two passengers who were also in the stolen vehicle were briefly detained and released by police.
