Tips for serving safely on Thanksgiving

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – With so many cooks in the kitchen, we have tips to make sure your Thanksgiving plans don’t go up in smoke.

The Red Cross says Thanksgiving is a top 2 day for home fires and cooking is often the culprit.

They say to stay in the kitchen when frying, grilling, or broiling, and turn off the stove if you leave the room – even just for a moment.

Avoid wearing loose clothing and keep anything that can catch fire away from the stovetop.

They also recommend keeping kids and pets at least three feet from cooking areas and checking the kitchen before leaving the house or going to bed.
