ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – A Vermont inmate faces new charges after police say he attacked two guards at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury.
Vermont State Police say Joseph Heim, 48, of Fayston, attempted to take a set of keys from correctional officers on Thursday and fought with them while at the hospital following a medical event. They say he was eventually restrained and that the officers were uninjured.
Heim was arrested earlier this week on drug charges and violation of conditions from a case in June where he was arrested in connection with setting off an explosive device that injured himself and another man.
He now faces new charges of simple assault, assault of a correctional officer with bodily fluids, and attempting to escape.
