BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Despite some wintry weather and near-freezing temperatures across the region, many people still showed up for turkey trots this Thanksgiving.
More than 100 people took to the University of Vermont’s women’s cross-country route, all hoping to complete 5 kilometers, or a 3.1-mile run, in the name of Feeding Champlain Valley.
Some brave finishers made the most of their trots.
“It was pretty fun, and I like doing it with my sister and my cousin,” Nola Shea said.
“I wanna do this next year, I really like running, and I really want to beat my dad again,” Owen Shea said.
And they weren’t alone. Our Laura Ullman joined them on the run. Watch the video to see.
HUNDREDS RUN IN N.Y. TURKEY TROT
In New York’s North Country, runners of all kinds braved a wintery mix of snow and rain as more than 400 people lined up for the Lions Club’s 47th annual turkey trot in Peru.
Runners had the choice of a 5K or 10K run, as family and friends cheered them on from the finish line.
The annual holiday run raises thousands of dollars every year, which is then given back to the community.
“It’s an opportune time to have it at Thanksgiving because a lot of kids that used to run it when they were in school come back from college and they get back into it again,” said Ed Eisele, co-chair of the Peru Turkey Trot.
The turkey trot will be back again next Thanksgiving for its 48th anniversary.
