Trial underway for Vt. man charged with 2021 murder of wife

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Jury selection begins Wednesday in the trial of a Vermont man accused of brutally murdering his wife on their anniversary camping trip.

Police say Joseph Ferlazzo allegedly murdered his wife Emily on the couple’s one-year wedding anniversary in Vermont in 2021. He later admitted to police on video he shot his wife twice and dismembered her body, leaving her in the bathroom of their camper. Police later found the camper in St. Albans.

The defense has argued that the statements made by Ferlazzo were not voluntary and they should be excluded as evidence at trial.

Jury selection for that trial started at 8:30 in a Chittenden County courtroom. Prosecutors have said they expect the trial to last two and a half weeks.
