WASHINGTON (WCAX) – Senator Peter Welch is worried about the impact on Vermonters of a government shutdown.
As Congress Friday debates how to fund the government, Welch says Vermont flood recovery funding from FEMA hangs in the balance and farms are also waiting on assistance from the USDA. He says a delay in disaster aid could have severe consequences.
“You’ve got to keep the lights on, that’s number one. Number two, we as a government have to help our citizens whether they voted for a Democrat or a Republican when they are in the path of a natural disaster,” Welch said.
Congress has until midnight Friday to pass the stopgap spending plan.
