Police: Driver did not intentionally hit pedestrians at NH New Year’s Eve celebration

CLAREMONT, N.H. (WCAX) – Police say they do not believe that the driver who hit and injured several pedestrians at a New Year’s Eve event in Claremont did so intentionally.

It happened at about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Arrowhead Recreation facility as the fireworks ended at First Night. Claremont police say a truck hit several pedestrians and a parked car, sending five people to the hospital, including the driver. Witnesses say after the crash, the engine kept revving and the driver had to be pulled out of the vehicle.

“The investigation right now is focused on whether or not the cause of the crash was the result of an underlying medical condition or the result of something else, whether that be impairment or distraction,” said Claremont Police Chief Brent Wilmot.

He says everyone sent to the hospital has been released.
