‘Warmth Support Program’ getting boost with match donations from Community Bank

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Community organizations are yet again getting together to make sure people don’t have to chose heat over no food on the table.

According to the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity, they have seen an increase of people utilizing their warmth program. The program provides people with financial assistance that are having a hard time paying for heat and the extra essentials.

This year Community Bank is going to match donations now through February 28 up to $25,000. The matching offer will double the impact of every dollar donated and just last year alone, CVOEO saw three thousand people in their coverage area needing the help.

“Many of the folks that utilize warmth are working and need that additional assistance. Many are also veterans, and retirees, and seniors, and individuals with disabilities. They are maybe living in housing that could use additional insulation,” said Travis Poulin from CVOEO.

Each person usually gets about 500 dollars worth of help a year.
