ST. ALBANS, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont leaders aim to be prepared for new tariffs under the Trump administration.
Senator Peter Welch will hold a round table in St. Albans on Monday morning to talk about trade war concerns.
It comes on the heels of President Trump’s plan to impose tariffs against major trade partners.
The Trump campaign has promised tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China.
It’s part of an effort to curb the flow of migrants and drugs in the US, but many are concerned the impact will be felt most by Americans who buy imported goods.
Monday’s meeting with Vermont businesses, farmers, and manufacturers will discuss Vermonters’ concerns about the potential impact of the policy – especially with close neighbor and trade partner Canada.
