WASHINGTON (WCAX) – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is calling for change in the Democratic Party.
Sanders is an independent who caucuses with the Democrats.
He says working-class Americans are angry, citing expensive health care, a large wealth gap, childhood and senior poverty, and other affordability problems.
Sanders says voters feel like the Democratic Party isn’t doing enough.
“Are they prepared to stand up to these powerful corporate interests? Raise the minimum wage, fight for health care for all people, make sure that all of our kids get the quality education that they need, expand Social Security: are they prepared to do those things? That’s the issue that we have to address,” Sanders said.
The comments from Sanders come after the Democratic Party suffered losses across the board nationally and in Vermont.
Over the weekend, Republican President-elect Donald Trump officially won all seven swing states. Kamala Harris is the first Democratic presidential candidate to lose the popular vote since 2004.
